Possible SoCalGas Curtailments
SoCalGas has released their Aliso Canyon Winter Technical Report.
It reveals the utility is incapable of meeting a critical demand event of 4.965 BCF/d without max withdrawals from all four of its storage facilities. The greatest demand SoCalGas can handle without Aliso Canyon is 3.8 BCF/d; anything in excess will require curtailing Residential, Commercial, or Industrial demand. In the event of a gas curtailment, electricity generation would already have been curtailed as much as possible through CAISO coordination.
Curtailments may not but likely, but it’s important to remain cautious. While weather will be the primary driver, gas price increases will be the end result.
